Homo Faber – Closing of the first cycle
A forum on building crafts and the ecological transition

Homo Faber is a travelling forum that brings together craftspeople and the general public around traditional materials, tools and know-how. Born in Geneva, it has travelled to the Vallée des Ormonts, the Val de Bagnes and the Val d’Anniviers, exploring vernacular architecture and the skilled gestures that bring it to life.

Each stage was developed with places and people from the region: the hydraulic sawmill at Les Planches and the Domaine de Sources in Les Diablerets, the Maison Gard – Musée de la Pierre Ollaire in Champsec, the Maison de Grand-Maman in Grimentz and the Musée des Outils Anciens in Pinsec, as well as craftspeople and builders who shared their practice with participants, including Jean-Emile Fellay, Philippe Nicollier and Roger Simond.

The cycle returns to Geneva for its closing event:

  • On 12 November at 18:00
  • At the Fondation Braillard Architectes, rue Saint-Léger 16, 1205 Geneva.

We invite everyone who has followed the forum, as well as those who would like to discover it, to join us and continue the conversation.

Homo Faber is a project of the EPFL LAPIS laboratory and the Fondation Braillard Architectes, supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation (Agora).

It is organised by Sophie Barenne, Nicola Braghieri, Vasileios Chanis and Panos Mantziaras, with an advisory committee including representatives of EPFL, ICOMOS Suisse, Patrimoine Suisse and the Fondation VD3209.
