Consultation on the Greater Geneva: the final presentation

24 September 2020
Haute Ecole d’Art et de Design HEAD, Espace Hippomène
7 avenue de Châtelaine, 1203 Geneva

The Braillard Architects Foundation and its partners* had the pleasure of organising the final presentation of the work by the seven multidisciplinary teams who worked for more than a year on the “Prospective visions for Greater Geneva. Inhabiting the city-landscape of the 21st century” Consultation.

Under the aegis of the United Nations Environment Program, this event took place on September 24th, 2020, at the Espace Hippomène of the HEAD, in a mixed format (in person and online) thus taking into account sanitary conditions in Switzerland and in the places of origin of the invited personalities.

During this day of dialogue and discussion, teams of architects, town planners, landscapers, experts in ecology, urban agriculture, and human and social sciences presented the results of their in-depth studies on the future of the cross-border metropolis through the prism of the principles of the ecological transition.

How to create resilience in the face of the extreme effects of global warming and pandemic crises? How to reduce the consumption of resources to guarantee the sustainable development of our urban societies? What will be the role of the Greater Geneva in cities and regions committing to a carbon-free society?

The Greater Geneva Consultation could thus anticipate and apply the objectives of an alternative, transitional and ecological development, which the COVID-19 crisis has brought to light, in the specific case of the cross-border metropolis the Greater Geneva. Actively supported by a multiplicity of partners, the strength of this action is aimed not only at politicians, but also at the media and civil society, the primary and essential players of change.
